Depression has become a widespread problem in today’s society and it affects one in four women and eight men. There are people who know and aware of the many signs and symptoms of depression. These include irritability, memory loss and not be able to concentrate, recurrent thoughts of death or suicide, unable to sleep, have feelings of hopelessness, feelings of worthlessness, the gain or loss of appetite, social withdrawal to name a few. It is hopeful to believe that depression is sadness and its causes just disappear, but mostly it’s just a pile thinking.
The main causes of depression are hereditary. It is a fact of 40 to 70 percent of the time and children of depressed parents are more likely to be depressed themselves because of their genetic makeup. A stressor in children may trigger a latent potential for depression. People who doubt the heredity as a major cause of depression admit that people who live with depressed people are more likely to be depressed themselves. A parent who suffers from depression, poor parenting skills may or may not have the stamina and patience needed to care for a child properly, which may be one cause of depression. The more we understand the role that heredity plays when it comes to depression, the more we will understand how genes affect our lives and moods.
